Bernd Heinrich is a biologist and professor emeritus of biology at the University of Vermont. He has authored many books and nearly two hundred research papers on animal physiology, behavior, and ecology. His scientific and creative nonfiction articles have appeared in Science, Scientific American, Smithsonian, Natural History, and the New York Times. His latest book, The Snoring Bird: My Family’s Journey Through a Century of Biology (2007), is a memoir.
