José Galizia Tundisi is an ecologist and president of the International Institute of Ecology in São Carlos, Brazil. He has served as a professor at theFederal University of São Carlos and the University of São Paulo and as president of the Brazilian National Research Council. His awards include the Gold Medal “Augusto Ruschi” Award from the Brazilian Academy of Sciences, the Moinho Santista Prize in Ecology, and the UN ’s Boutros Ghali Prize for Environment and Development. He is a member of the Brazilian and São Paulo Academies of Sciences.
