Nirmal Selvamony (currently an associate professor) has been teaching English at Madras Christian College, Chennai, India, since 1982. Presently, he is a visiting faculty member and Coordinator of Languages at the Central University of Tamil Nadu at Thiruvarur, Tamil Nadu, India. He introduced ecocriticismin the Indian academy and founded a forum called OSL E-India (Organization for Studies in Literature and the Environment–India; www.osle-india.org) to promote it. With Watson Solomon, he founded the Indian Journal of Ecocriticismand has researched extensively in Tamilology, especially tiNai theory, Tolkaappiyam, and Tamil musicology. He has evolved an ecocritical theory known as “Oikopoetics” and has published twelve books and more than fifty research papers. He is a guitarist, playwright, and director of plays.
