Shepard Krech III

Shepard Krech III is professor of anthropology and director of the Haffenreffer Museum of Anthropology at Brown University. He has conducted ethnographic and historical research among the Gwich’in in the Canadian Arctic and black Americans in Tidewater Maryland. The recipient of numerous fellowships and a trustee of the National Humanities Center, he is author or editor of ten books, including The Ecological Indian: Myth and History (2000), Spirits of the Air: Birds and American Indians in the South (2009), and Encyclopedia of World Environmental History (2003, edited with J. R. McNeill and Carolyn Merchant).
